Product Designer (Short-term)

Maisha Meds is hiring! We’re looking for a stellar short-term product designer to work with our team for the next 1-2 months to improve the design and user experience on our Android app.

About Maisha Meds

Maisha Meds is focused on improving healthcare quality, affordability, and access in Africa. Since incorporating in 2017, we have grown to support over 150,000 patients monthly across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda with our suite of software products. Our network of pharmacies and clinics use our restocking platform to order medicines from high quality suppliers and we offer trade credit to help them afford those medicines. We’re testing a variety of subsidy programs to improve patient uptake of high-impact health products like malaria medication and contraceptives. We measure our success by our ability to improve the quality and affordability of healthcare commodities for low-income patients across Africa.

The organization is at an exciting inflection point – we are currently testing our digital reimbursement model for improving malaria diagnosis and treatment alongside health economics research partners and global health funders. We are currently expanding our efforts in Tanzania and Uganda, with other countries to follow. We are moving towards supporting digital reimbursement for the 16 core areas that make up Universal Health Coverage (UHC) as defined by the World Health Organization. We parter with global health funders, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical manufacturers to ensure that the diagnostics and therapies required to support UHC are always available at the last mile, no matter how far that last mile might be.

Our flagship software product is an Android app that pharmacies use to run their business, track inventory, and process reimbursements and discounts for healthcare access for patients.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a short-term contract designer to collaborate with our tech and product teams. They’ll set our organizational design standard and ensure we have a unifying visual language.

They’ll design user interfaces for Android and web tools and help set components and standard design templates to be used by the team going forward. We envision this as a 1-2 month project to help the team improve the design of our core product, with potential for additional projects over time.

The ideal candidate has:

  • 4+ years of designing user interfaces (preferably for Android)
  • Experience in creating design standards for an organization
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with a culturally diverse team

Their responsibilities will be to:

  • Take existing wireframes and screens and give them a simple, sleek, unifying design
  • Design or identify templates to be used by all engineers when designing new features and screens
  • Help us to use color and fonts more effectively throughout the app and review our existing color schemes

Because this engagement will take place in the time of COVID, we expect that the engagement will be remote, with a team based in both Kenya and North America.  We would be keen to work with a stellar design professional who is temporarily available and interested in helping improve healthcare delivery in East Africa for the next couple of months.
